Seoul is the city that travel-video creators visit and immediately announce they're moving to. The cafés are obsessive about every detail. The street food is dense and excellent. The Korean BBQ doesn't end. The 24-hour culture means a 2am dakgalbi run is normal, and the next morning's iced americano-and-bingsu repair is also normal. The whole city operates on the assumption that you will eat several times more than you planned to.

The places below come from real saved trips. They lean toward Seongsu (the rebuilt warehouse-coffee district everyone is filming this year), Hongdae (for the late-night, the indie shops, the music), and the markets — Gwangjang and Mangwon especially. Itaewon and Gangnam are worth a stop but neither is the soul of the city.

Four days is the minimum to actually feel Seoul. A week lets you take the KTX to Busan or do a day trip to Suwon. The subway is fantastic, the taxis are cheap, and the only thing the city can't fix for you is your stomach capacity. Vote with your group on which BBQ place actually wins and let the rest of the night follow.
