Introduction
SavedTrips ("we", "us", "our") operates the SavedTrips mobile application and the savedtrips.com website. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the rights you have over it.
We do not sell your data. We do not show ads. We do not use third-party advertising identifiers. We share your data only with the service providers listed below, and only as needed to operate the product.
Data We Collect
- Account info: email address and display name, managed through AWS Cognito. Optional profile fields you provide (passport country, preferred currency)
- Trip data: trip names, destinations, dates, places, votes, itineraries, packing lists, expenses, and budget settings
- User-generated content: notes, comments, and photos or receipts you attach to expenses or places
- Video links: URLs you submit (e.g. TikTok, Instagram, YouTube) for processing. We do not store the source videos — only extracted place data and temporary frame captures, which are deleted within 24 hours
- Usage and diagnostic data: app interactions, feature usage, and crash reports (anonymized; no advertising identifier collected)
- Purchase data: transaction identifiers and product IDs from Apple or Google for in-app purchases. We never see or store payment card details
- Push notification token: a device-specific token used to send you trip updates and reminders
Device Permissions
The app requests the following device permissions only when you use the related feature. You can grant or deny each one in your device settings.
- Camera: to capture photos of receipts to attach to your expenses, and to capture photos to attach to places
- Photo library: to attach existing photos from your device to expenses or places
- Microphone: required by the system when capturing video; SavedTrips does not record or transmit audio independently
- Location: if you allow it, used only to center maps near your current position. We do not store or transmit your background location
- Notifications: to send you trip updates, invites, and reminders. Optional and revocable at any time
How We Use Your Data
- To provide our core service: processing videos, extracting places, generating itineraries, and tracking expenses
- To manage your account, authentication, and in-app purchases
- To enable collaboration: sharing trip data with people you explicitly invite
- To deliver push notifications you have opted into
- To improve the app through anonymized usage analytics and crash reports
Third-Party Services
We rely on a small number of trusted service providers to operate SavedTrips. We share only the minimum data each one needs to function.
- Amazon Web Services (AWS): hosts our backend, database, file storage, and authentication. All data is stored in AWS us-east-1
- AWS Cognito: handles account sign-up, sign-in, and authentication tokens
- Google Places API: place names, addresses, and coordinates are sent to Google to enrich entries with ratings, photos, and opening hours
- Google Maps SDK: renders interactive maps inside the app
- Anthropic (Claude AI): video frames and trip context are sent for place extraction and itinerary generation. Anthropic does not retain these inputs beyond the processing request and does not use them to train models
- Apple App Store / Google Play Store: process all in-app purchases. We never receive your payment card details
- RevenueCat: validates in-app purchase receipts and manages entitlements. Receives a pseudonymous user identifier and the transaction ID of each purchase
- Expo / Apple Push Notification Service / Firebase Cloud Messaging: deliver push notifications you have opted into
Data Retention
- Account and trip data: retained for as long as your account is active
- Temporary video frames: automatically deleted within 24 hours of processing
- Crash and usage logs: retained for up to 90 days, then automatically deleted
- Deleted accounts: all associated data is permanently removed within 30 days, except where we are legally required to retain it (e.g. tax records for completed purchases)
Your Rights
You have the following rights over your data:
- Access and portability: request a copy of your data at any time by emailing privacy@savedtrips.com
- Correction: edit your profile, trips, and other content directly inside the app
- Deletion: delete your account from inside the app, which permanently removes all associated data within 30 days
- Opt out of notifications: at any time from your device settings or the in-app notifications screen
EU/UK residents (GDPR): you also have the right to object to processing, restrict processing, and lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Our legal basis for processing is performance of contract (operating the service) and your consent (for optional features like notifications).
California residents (CCPA/CPRA): you have the right to know what personal information we collect, delete it, and opt out of "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Security
- All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS 1.2+) and at rest (AES-256)
- Authentication is handled by AWS Cognito with secure token management
- Service-to-service access uses scoped IAM roles following the principle of least privilege
- No SavedTrips employee has direct access to your trip content under normal operations
No system is perfectly secure. If we ever experience a security incident affecting your data, we will notify you and regulators in accordance with applicable law.
International Transfers
SavedTrips is operated from and stores data in the United States. If you access the app from outside the US, your data is transferred to, stored, and processed in the US under standard contractual clauses where applicable.
Children's Privacy
SavedTrips is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU/UK). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you through an in-app notification and update the "Last updated" date above.
